Spring in to Comfort!

How ready are we for warm weather!? The way we look at it, spring time is almost like a new life to everything and everyone around us! Our neighbors are back outside prepping their lawns, gardening, and patio furniture is all ready! To some, that is a vacation on it’s own. However, if you’re anything like my wife, she’s nagging my head off for a getaway!
I know many of us have a planned vacation and wonder ‘how can I best avoid coming home from vacation to damages done to my house from a leak or busted pipe?’ Here are some common failures in plumbing & HVAC that we noticed our fellow community calls us about as we tiptoe into warmer weather:

  • Failed gate valves/shut off valves

  • Failed sump pumps

  • Frozen pipes

  • Clogged drains

  • Leaky faucets

  • Water heater issues

  • Dirty condensers / air filters

  • Refrigerant leaks

  • AC not turning on

  • Ductwork leaks/separation

Don’t worry! We won’t leave you hanging! Read along to understand what we mean by each of the failures mentioned above!

Failed gate valves/shut off valves: Gate valves often fail by seizing to turn. That is usually caused by corrosion/calcification as well as worn out seats on that valve. Avoid the drip, drip, call us and we can get you taken care of.

Failed sump pump: Heavy outpours of rain are always expected during spring. If your sump pump is not working properly. there is a high chance that you can flood your basement. Making sure your sump pump is working correctly could save you A LOT of money and saves you that headache!

Frozen Pipes: With our crazy temperature fluctuations during the spring, pipes that are not correctly insulated may freeze up and burst and then show leaks as the warmer weather comes in and those pipes thaw out. We strongly recommend giving us a call if you see/hear any type of drip (or gush) on your pipes.

Clogged drains: Leaves, dirt and debris can easily get caught in our drains as springtime brings in more rain. We can effectively (and usually quickly) come by and clear them for you.

Leaky Faucets: As springtime brings in more humidity (FINALLY), the seals on your faucets could potentially wear out, which in turn causes the faucet to leak. Also, cartridges with time could fail and cause issues with your faucet as well. We have you covered, I promise!

Water heater issues: Sediment build up is usually our most common failure on water heaters. In the warmer months, we tend to use more of our water heater than we know. Making sure you flush your tank (or tankless) during the spring will help limit sediment buildup to get the most of your water heater, and maintain its lifespan. If your water heater is not lasting for your needs, you may want to consider going tankless! Again, lucky for you, our team of Master Plumbers can take great care of that!

Dirty condensers/ air filters: Because we have gone months without using our condensing unit, debris can cause clogs in the system which in turn reduces the efficiency of our AC to run correctly.

Refrigerant leaks: Winter months can cause more wear on our AC system than some may really know. This can cause refrigerant leaks in the system. You can tell if there is no cooling happening to your AC. Additionally, if you see any lines from your system that are frozen, that is a good indicator that there is a refrigerant leak.

AC not turning on: Since the system has been off for a while, there is a high chance that there is a blown fuse, an electrical disconnect, or a thermostat malfunction going on which we can fix for you!

Ductwork leaks/separation: Temperature changes can cause shifts in the ductwork which effects airflow as air leaks through the gaps.

Spring also brings creativity to a lot of homeowners. If you are considering any kitchen, bathroom, basement remodels or even additions to your home, give us a call and we would love to come and give you an estimate and be a part of that new space!

Also, you may want to consider a furnace replacement if you felt a little chilly during the winter months.
